A PALE CELADON JADE AND RUSSET LOTUS BRUSH WASHER, China, 19th century

The washer is carved to depict a large foliate lotus leaf with a single blossom extended over the washer with pierced openwork.

At the side an elaborate goldfish is portrayed almost as if it is trying to swim over the top.

The fish is highlighted by the carver using the natural brown skin of the stone.
