LARGE CERAMIC POT, Japan, 19th century

Well molded and decorated resting on its pedestal, it depicts warriors in the centre and around it are applied ceramic medallions carved in the shape of phoenixes. On either side are two monster-head shaped handles carrying two rings in their mouths. The lid culminates in a kneeling sage. The ceramic support on which it rests also features the same motifs as the vase.
