PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN VASES, China, Republic Period (1912-1949)

With a sinuous body rising from a narrow foot and culminating in a raised neck, they depict two luohans riding a dragon and a tiger respectively. The back of each is inscribed with poems and has apocryphal gold marks from the collections of the Qianlong Emperor. The decoration is enclosed by beautiful red lace on the foot, shoulders and neck. In the centre of the base they bear the apocryphal four-character square mark in blue above the blanket of the Qianlong Emperor.
