A QAJAR ENAMELLED LIDDED COPPER COFFEE POT, Iran, second half of 19th century

h cm 24

Of slender pear-shaped form, featuring a serpentine handle and spout, the bulbous body rising to a long ringed tapering neck with hinged domed lid and out-flaring knop, the entire surface adorned with polychrome enamels. Divided into four tiers by floral and calligraphic bands, the decoration of the body showcases courtly life scenes within a typical Persian garden setting against a backdrop of floral motifs with winged angelic figures; calligraphic bands and cartouches with nasta'liq script embellish the handle and spout.

Catalogue Notes:

A masterful piece capturing the essence of Qajar court culture and aesthetics; for an analogous concept of décor.
