A BRONZE FIGURE OF AVALOKITESVARA, China, Ming Dynasty, 17th century

Cast seated in dhyanasana on a circular base, with the right hand holding a willow branch and the left hand holding a cup; dressed in wide draped robes finely chiseled with floral motifs, left open at the chest to reveal a sash-tied dhoti and a prominent necklace hanging from the neck. The hair falls in long locks over the shoulders and is gathered in a topknot behind a crown, which bears a small figure of Amitahba Buddha at its center.
