A LACQUERED WOODEN FIGURE OF SAKYAMUNI BUDDHA, China, 17th / 18th century

Seated in padmasana with hands in dhyana mudra, it is finely sculpted with a serene expression on the face, eyes closed in meditation, and wearing a robe with soft drapery that leaves the chest exposed, on which a swastika is depicted. It sits on a double-lotus base resting on a pedestal,adorned with two cranes and two Buddhist lions, from which a flame rises, decorated with three dragons and two phoenixes.
