Repoussé with great realism, the top features the head of a mythical animal with wide-open jaws, meticulously chiseled down to the smallest detail, crafted as a piece for someone of high rank. The eyes are two inset amethysts, and the tongue is made of red stone. The handle is decorated with floral motifs.
